I have two Konkani books to my credit, Koddu Sonvsar ani her kotha (stories) and Zoit ani her kovita (poems). I have also co-produced Zoit-achim Fulam, an audio album consisting of poems from the poetry book set to music by Elick Vaz.

  My review of Fr Antonio Pereira’s autobiography,  Mhojea Hatanchi ani Vonttanchi Kanni . Published by Fr Freddy J Da Costa (1989) Pages: 168, Price Rs.15/- "On August 25, 1919, in the village of Sirlim in Chinchinim, a son was born to Antonio Ludovico Pereira and Anastasia Encarnaçao da Costa. They named him Antonio Luis Pereira. He was ordained priest on November 21, 1952 and rose to become Goa’s much loved and sought-after  pregador  (preacher) and a Konknni writer of repute." I had the opportunity of interacting with Fr. Antonio Pereira during a school retreat in Betul and years later at a workshop in journalism at the Baga Retreat House. Most of what I learnt is difficult to recollect now, a time-span of forty odd years casting shadows over distant events and episodes. The Reliquary of the True Cross @ Louvre Abu Dhabi

  Cover image : Reliquary cross containing a fragment of the True Cross / France, Limousin (Pic: Byron Dias)  Today, on the 3rd of May, due to the nationwide lockdown, masses and prayers will  not  be offered in white-washed chapels across villages and towns of Goa to celebrate the Feast of the Holy Cross on which Jesus was crucified. One Konkani hymn, however, will be on everyone’s lips and hearts:  O bhagevontu, Santa Cruzu  /  tujie kurpen nivar amkam  /  dusmanatule . (Oh blessed, Holy Cross / through your grace, protect us / from our enemies.) About a hundred days after Louvre Abu Dhabi opened on November 11, 2017, I was finally inside the ‘universal museum’.   Hailing from Saligao,  Fr. Edwin   D'Souza  was a man far ahead of his times and embraced, as the years went by, everything that was Indian. He exchanged his stiff-collared cassock for a cotton kurta in saffron and took great delight in calling himself  Swami Premananda Naik Salgaonkar . And the principal who once took us to task in the school assembly for having allowed our hair to grow over our ears, now began, much to our surprise, letting his hair down so low that they touched his shoulders and he began to look like a real  swamiji !  FR.
